Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Fluento. They are written to be read, not to be skipped — every section describes something the app actually does.

1. Agreeing to these terms

Signing in to Fluento — whether that creates your account or returns you to one — means you accept these terms and the Privacy Policy. There is no separate box to tick, and that is deliberate: a checkbox nobody reads is not consent, and the sign-in button is the moment the agreement actually begins.

If you do not accept them, do not sign in.

2. What Fluento is

Fluento pairs people who are learning each other's languages for live voice conversation. It finds you a partner two ways: Match pairs you with whoever else is waiting, or you call somebody from the lobby yourself.

It is a place to practise with strangers. It is not a teaching service, a certification, a translator, or an emergency service. Nobody on it is vetted, qualified, or employed by us.

These terms cover the app and the website at fluentoapp.com.

3. Who may use it

You must be at least 16 years old. The app pairs strangers for unmoderated live conversation, which is not a place for children.

One account per person. Do not create an account for somebody else, share yours, or use somebody else's. The details on your profile — your name, your languages, your level, your age if you give one — should be true, because other people decide whether to talk to you based on them.

4. Your account

You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your password to yourself. Change it from Settings straight away if you think somebody else has it.

We ask you to confirm your email address before you finish setting up. That confirmation is how you get back in if you forget your password, so an address you do not control is an account you will eventually lose.

5. Calls

Calls are audio only, and they connect directly between the two devices wherever the network allows it. We do not record calls, listen to them, or keep a copy. What survives a call is how long it lasted, which feeds your minutes on the ranking board and the counters you and that person share.

Do not record the other person without telling them and getting their agreement. In many places recording a conversation without consent is a criminal offence, and it is grounds for removal here regardless of where you are.

A call needs microphone permission. Without it there is no call — that is the whole app, not a feature you can decline and keep the rest.

6. How to behave

Talk to people the way you would want to be talked to. Specifically, do not:

• harass, threaten, demean or sexually proposition anybody
• say or send anything hateful about who somebody is
• expose anybody to sexual content, and never to a minor
• record or photograph somebody without their agreement
• impersonate another person, or lie about your age
• advertise, recruit, solicit money, or run a scam
• share anybody's private information, including your own beyond what you are comfortable with a stranger holding
• use the app for anything illegal where you are or where they are

Leaving a call is always a reasonable response. So is blocking, and so is reporting.

7. What you write and upload

Your profile, your photo, your messages and your reviews stay yours. By putting them in the app you allow us to store them and show them to the people the app is built to show them to — your profile and photo to anybody signed in, your messages to the person you sent them to, your review to whoever opens that person's profile.

That permission is only for running the app. We do not sell your content, license it to anybody, or use it to advertise.

A review you leave carries your name and photo, is visible to everybody, and outlives your own account.

8. Reporting, blocking and removal

Blocking somebody hides them from your lobby and cuts messages and calls between you. Reporting sends the matter to us; the person reported is not told who reported them, and reports are not readable by anybody but us.

We can suspend or delete an account that breaks these terms, and we can do it without warning where somebody is being harmed. We try to be proportionate, but we are not obliged to explain a decision in detail, because explaining exactly what tripped a removal is how people learn to work around it.

9. Gift tokens, premium and payments

Gift tokens are a number attached to an account. They are not money, they have no cash value, they cannot be exchanged for money, and they cannot be transferred out of the app or refunded in cash.

Reaching a token tier unlocks features permanently — balances only ever go up, so a tier once reached is not lost.

No real payments are taken at this stage. The purchase flow runs against a stub that approves everything and moves no money, and every receipt it writes is marked as such. If and when real charging is switched on, it will be stated plainly before you are asked to pay anything, and these terms will be updated first.

10. The Founding 2000

The first people to reach the lobby are issued a permanent, numbered founding place. They are issued strictly in order, one per account, and when they are gone there will be no more.

A founding place includes access to chat and calls at no cost for as long as the account exists. It cannot be bought, sold, transferred or given away, it has no cash value, and it is not a refundable purchase — nothing is paid for it.

It is permanent, with one exception: an account removed under section 8 for breaking these terms takes its founding place with it. We are not able to reissue a place once it has been claimed, by anybody, for any reason — the allocation is final by design.

11. What we do not promise

The app is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available, that a call will connect, that anybody will be online to talk to, that a translation will be correct, or that the other person is who they say they are.

Calls depend on both networks and can fail for reasons neither of us controls. Speech recognition and translation are approximate by nature — do not rely on either for anything that matters.

We may change, add or remove features. We will not quietly remove something you have paid for.

12. Our liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for what other users say or do, for anything you arrange with somebody you met here, for lost data, or for losses that were not a foreseeable result of us getting something wrong.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

13. Ending it

You can delete your account at any time from Settings. It takes effect immediately and it cannot be undone.

Some records survive because they are not only yours: your shared call history with another person, reviews you left about somebody, and past leaderboard entries. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what goes and what stays.

We may close an account that breaks these terms, or stop offering the service entirely, in which case we will give what notice we reasonably can.

14. Changes to these terms

These terms ship inside the app, so they change when the app does. If a change materially affects you — what we collect, what you pay, what you may do — we will bring it to your attention in the app rather than quietly updating this page. Continuing to use Fluento after that means you accept the new terms.

15. Law and contact

This agreement is governed by the law of Jordan, and disputes are heard there. If you are a consumer, this does not take away rights you have where you live, and it does not require you to travel to bring a claim you could bring at home.

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest of them still stand.
