Terms of Service

Last updated 4 September 2026 · Applies to the Fluento app and fluentoapp.com

1. Who may use Fluento

You must be at least 16 years old. Fluento puts you on voice calls with strangers, and that is not a service we offer to children. You must also not be barred from using it under the laws that apply to you, and you must not use it if we have previously removed your account.

2. Your account

You can delete your account yourself at any time in Settings. Section 7 of our Privacy Policy explains exactly what that removes and the two things it cannot.

3. How to behave

These are the rules shown inside the app, and they are part of this agreement:

  1. Be someone worth calling back. The person on the other end is speaking a language they are still learning, to a stranger, out loud. Give them room to finish a sentence. Correcting somebody is help; making them feel small for needing it is not.
  2. No harassment, no hate. Nothing aimed at who somebody is — their country, religion, gender, accent or level. Threats and abuse end an account, not a call.
  3. Keep it clean. No sexual talk, no nudity, no advances. Nobody came here for that, and the fact that they did not say so is not permission.
  4. Be yourself, once. Your own photo, your own name, one account per person.
  5. Don't sell, don't recruit, don't link out. Fluento is not a place to advertise, to grow a following, or to move somebody onto another app.
  6. Never send money to somebody you met here. No genuine language partner asks a stranger for money, gift cards or bank details. If somebody does, report them.
  7. What was said on a call stays there. Do not record a call, screenshot a chat, or repost either.
  8. Review the conversation you actually had. Rate how somebody was to talk to, not how good their grammar was.

You also agree not to break the law using Fluento, not to attempt to access anybody else's account or data, not to reverse-engineer or attack the service, and not to use bots or automated tools against it.

Recording a call is a breach of these terms. Fluento does not record calls and cannot, and it may also be illegal where you or the other person live. Do not do it.

4. What you post

Your photo, bio, messages and reviews remain yours. You give us only the permission we need to run the service — to store your content, and to show it to the people it is meant for.

You confirm you have the right to post what you post, and that it does not infringe anybody else's rights. We may remove content that breaks these terms.

Reviews are worth a separate word: a review you write appears on somebody's profile for everybody to read and outlives the call. Write about the conversation, not the person.

5. Calls between people

Fluento connects two people; it does not supervise them. We do not listen to calls, we cannot, and we do not screen who you are matched with beyond the rules above and the reports we receive.

You are talking to strangers. Use the same judgement you would anywhere else: do not share your address, financial details or documents, and do not send money to somebody you met here. If a call goes wrong, end it — you can block and report anyone from their profile, and blocking is enforced immediately and in both directions.

6. Beta software

Fluento is in early access. Features will change, some will be removed, and things will occasionally break. We may reset or migrate data during this period, and we will tell you in the app before doing anything that would lose your account.

7. Money

Fluento is currently free. Every feature is open to every account, with nothing to buy and nothing held back.

If we ever introduce paid features, we will tell you before it happens, not after — and anything you already have will not be taken away to sell back to you.

8. The Founding 2000

The first two thousand people to reach the lobby are issued a permanent numbered founding place. There are exactly two thousand, they are issued in order, and each account may hold only one.

A founding place includes lifetime access to chat and calls at no cost. It is permanent and cannot be revoked — except where an account is removed under section 9 for breaking these terms, in which case the place goes with the account. It is tied to your account and cannot be sold, transferred or given away, and it has no cash value.

9. Suspension and removal

We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms, and for serious breaches — harassment, sexual content directed at somebody, threats, impersonation, or asking people for money — we will do so without warning.

Reports go to a queue only Fluento can read. The person reported is never told who reported them.

If you think we removed your account by mistake, write to hello@fluentoapp.com and a person will look at it.

10. Our rights

The Fluento name, logo, app, website, stories and design are ours. These terms give you permission to use the app as intended, and nothing more — you may not copy, resell, or build a competing service from it.

11. No warranty

Fluento is provided as is. We do not promise it will always be available, that you will always find somebody to talk to, that a call will always connect, or that the people you meet will be who they say they are. To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties.

Some jurisdictions do not allow such exclusions, in which case they do not apply to you.

12. Limits on liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Fluento is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost data, lost profits, or for the conduct of other users. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you have paid us in the last twelve months (currently nothing) or £50.

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

13. Changes and ending

We may update these terms. For anything significant we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Fluento after a change means you accept it; if you do not, delete your account.

You may stop using Fluento at any time. We may end this agreement if you break it, or if we discontinue the service — in which case we will give you reasonable notice and a chance to get your information out.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country of residence and may bring proceedings there.

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
